Who are we?

Normisjon Europe is a part of a larger mission organisation, Normisjon, based in Norway. Normisjon´s call is to make Jesus known amongst new generations and unreached people groups around the world.

Our mandate in Normisjon Europe is
1. To mobilize and equip youth, families and all generations to local and foreign missions.

  1. To build collaborative relationships with churches between European nations and people groups to support each other´s work through short and long-term missions

Since 2011, Normisjon has contributed to sharing the Gospel in the Czech Republic through short-term teams, and for a period also with a missionary family, as well as sending interns to support churches for longer mission projects. Today, we are sending teams to Latvia and Czech while we also collaborate with Finns, Germans, and other Christians in Europe. We are also receiving teams from Czech to support our local work in Norway. We believe there is a great value when we can support each other with missions in different nations. We receive a new boldness, perspective and strength to share our faith with our own community when we receive a team from another European nation to walk along side us and do mission together.

Why European Mission?

Europe was once considered the Christian continent, but that is far from today’s reality. The Czech Republic was the cradle of the Protestant Reformation and the first modern missionary movement. Today, 70 percent of the Czech population declares that they are non-believers or atheists. Normisjon directs most of its missionary work to areas with unreached people groups so our strategy is also prioritizing and focusing on European nations with the least Christians like The Czech Republic.

Christians throughout Europe may be few but we believe in and serve the same God. Building relationships with our fellow Christian brothers and sisters in other countries is an important value for us to reach more people with the Gospel in Europe.

How we share the Gospel in Europe:

  1. Mission Week

Mission Week is when we send and receive short-term teams across Europe.  Here we want to use teams from Norway and elsewhere in Europe to mobilize each other to live stronger missional lives and to receive greater boldness to share our faith in an increasingly secular and multi-religious continent.

The goal of a Mission Week is threefold: We want new people to meet Jesus, that local Christians are encouraged and strengthened in their faith and in the work they are involved in, and that team participants grow and take steps in faith.

During a Mission Week, the visiting team and a local team function as an extended family. They live together in the local church, eat together, laugh together, sing and worship together, and share Jesus together. The teams often visit schools, where the young people are invited to various events in the afternoon. This could be, for example, a football tournament, a game night or a barbecue. The focus throughout the week is on building relationships. This often opens doors to sharing testimonies and having conversations about faith with people who do not know Jesus. Many Mission Weeks consist of teams of youth, from 17 years old, and young adults, but all generations are welcome. There is a great value to having different generations a part of a team. We also send  families on Family Mission Weeks. These Family Mission Weeks are special because children have a unique way of connecting people that open hearts and doors to share the Gospel and for new people to build relationships with the local church.

  1. Collaboration & Relationships

We believe that cooperation with local Christians is essential to conducting missions in a sustainable way. When we send out short-term teams, it is important that there are some local Christians who can follow up on those who have their first encounter with the church and Jesus during the week the team is there. We are looking to expand our network in Europe through building relationships with churches so we can send teams to more cities and countries.

  1. Internship

We have an internship available where we send someone who has been on a Mission Week, and who is passionate about missions, from Norway to the Czech Republic for a volunteer service in a partner church  for six months to a year. We also have the possibility to receive a Czech as a volunteer  in a church in Norway. We would like to gradually expand this offer to more of our partner countries.
